GFN Book Club October: Uprooted (Naomi Novik) – October 15th
Dear book enthusiasts and feminists,
For October, we are reading ‘Uprooted’, a fantasy novel by Naomi Novik that conjures up fairytale vibes while asking questions about human and interspecies relationships.
Quote from the book:
“Our Dragon doesn’t eat the girls he takes, no matter what stories they tell outside our valley. We hear them sometimes, from travelers passing through. They talk as though we were doing human sacrifice, and he were a real dragon. Of course that’s not true: he may be a wizard and immortal, but he’s still a man, and our fathers would band together and kill him if he wanted to eat one of us every ten years. He protects us against the Wood, and we’re grateful, but not that grateful.”
The discussion will still be accessible for those who have not finished the book, and everybody is welcome to participate! Feel free to bring your own questions and thoughts on the (topic of the) book.
Let us know if you would like to borrow a virtual copy of the book, or consult 3lib.net to download your own.
See you all soon, be safe ♥
PS: we’re still working on finding a location, will let you know asap where we will meet.
